Applications

With a 5/16″ diameter and 7/16″ length of cut, the YG1 85579TE solid carbide finishing end mill offers excellent rigidity and precision for detailed finishing in steel and similar materials. Its 5-flute design coupled with a 45° helix angle and TiAlN Extreme coating enhances surface finish and tool longevity by reducing vibration and improving chip evacuation. This size balances reach and stiffness, making it well suited for finishing low carbon steel in line with best combination guidelines. The TiAlN Extreme coating, combined with the high flute count and steep helix angle, supports smooth cutting and heat resistance, beneficial when machining stainless steel, HRSA, and cast iron as secondary applications. The tools geometry omits a corner radius, so edge chipping prevention relies on the synergy between coating and flute design to maintain edge integrity during finishing cuts. This end mill should not be used on non-ferrous materials because the coating is not well suited and will wear rapidly. It is also not intended for roughing or heavy interrupted cuts where alternative geometries or coatings are preferred.
