Applications

Providing a 3/8″ diameter with a 1-3/4″ length of cut, the YG1 55584TN solid carbide finishing end mill achieves a 4.67:1 length-to-diameter ratio that delivers rigidity and precision for detailed finishing in steel. Its 4-flute design and 30° helix angle balance efficient chip evacuation with cutting edge strength, enhanced by a TiN coating that resists wear and reduces built-up edge. This tool is well suited for slotting and finishing in low carbon steels, aligning with recommended practices for easy-machining steel. The absence of a corner radius means chipping prevention depends on the carbide substrate and coating combination, so interrupted cuts require caution. The center cutting design enables plunge cutting capabilities. It is not recommended for heat-resistant superalloys (ISO S) because the TiN coating is not a good match and will degrade rapidly. While capable of machining cast iron, non-ferrous, and stainless steel to some degree, its primary role is steel (ISO P) applications, where its features yield optimal results.
