5 Flute Solid Carbide Finishing End Mill for Chatterless Operations. The newest member of Promax carbide tools is the VAR-A-TEC performance series 159 Aluminum-Chromium-Silicon (nACRo) finishing end mill. It comes with vibration-reducing five-flute geometry and a square end shape. Square end mills are generally applied in slotting, profiling and plunge cutting. In comparison to a standard single end mill, the VAR-A-TEC five-flute design offers a greater depth of cut and heavier feeds. It is best used on difficult-to-machine materials including Titanium, Stainless Steel, High Strength Alloys and Cast Iron while leaving an impressive surface finish. End mills have cutting edges along the outside diameter and the flutes. It is designed such that the chips are removed while cooling fluids enter easily. The end mill’s five flutes give a finer finish than lesser flute designs. The nACRo coating is inspired by its original developer PLATIT. nACRo© has a nanocomposite structure that has increased hardness for scratch and higher heat resistance. It further reduces the need for lubricants based on the application. The tool material made up of solid carbide (industrial steel) is harder than high-speed or cobalt steel. Solid carbide makes the tool more wear-resistant at high speeds. Cutting diameter tolerance is +0.000″ to -0.002″. The smooth-finished round shank accommodates a variety of holders. The tool is available in 6 different sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 3/4″, offering 7 different lengths of cut from 1/2″ to 1-5/8″.
