The YG1 86599TC 7/8″ Size, 2″ Length of Cut, 5 Flute TiCN Solid Carbide Finishing End Mill combines a length-to-diameter ratio of 2.29 for enhanced rigidity and precision during finishing operations in steel. Featuring a 45° helix and five flutes, it improves surface finish and chip evacuation while reducing vibration during light radial stock removal. Its TiCN coating offers excellent wear resistance and thermal stability, making it well suited for finishing low carbon steels such as 1018 and A36, in accordance with recommended material combinations. Supplied by Travers with a geometry optimized for finishing, the tools flute count and helix angle work synergistically to enhance surface quality and extend tool life. The lack of a corner radius means that careful handling is needed to avoid edge chipping, especially in interrupted cuts. The center cutting capability allows plunge cutting, broadening its application scope in complex milling. Avoid using this tool on HRSA (ISO S) materials, as the TiCN coating is not ideal and will deteriorate quickly. While capable of machining non-ferrous, stainless steel, and cast iron, its primary strength lies in steel finishing where its attributes align closely with best practices.
